Vacation to Alor Regency, a traveler can enjoy the beauty of the clear East Nusa Tenggara sea and witness unique animals called dugong. Animals belonging to this group of mammals are popularly referred to as mermaids.

Although these animals live wild, but they are friendly to humans. One of the tour guides in Alor became his best friend.

"This dugong is a blessing for me personally. It has been 12 years in my heart and my heart knows each other (inner contact with dugong)," said Onesimus Laa (53) in a written statement on Sunday (3/3/2019).

That day, Thursday (02/27/2019), the man who is familiarly called One invited several visitors to meet his favorite dugong fish. It takes about 15 minutes by motorboat from Mali Beach, to be able to meet the male dugong he named Mawar.

The story of the beginning of their friendship is unique. One said, around 2007, he diligently planted mangroves on Sika Island, which is an island belonging to his ancestors. This 8-hectare island is known as sacred and no humans live in it.

On this island there is the tomb of Sultan Alamudin, which is said to be a descendant of Walisanga. One diligently cared for the tomb and the sacred island alone. One is indeed an environmentalist and is very concerned about the sustainability of his native land.

One day, wife One was angry because of the limitations of their family's economy. With an anxious heart, One still goes to Sika Island to plant mangroves. He believes, his efforts to love nature will not be in vain.

"Well, at that time, when I left Sika Island, this fish appeared and began to follow me to the estuary," he said.

The incident repeated again for two consecutive days. Then on the third day, One decided to get off the boat and approach the dugong.

"I went down the anchor, (said) 'what does this mean?'. He then kissed my hand. Since then my fear has disappeared," said One.

One, who at the time did not know the sex of the dugong, gave him the name Mawar. Over time, the bonds of Inner One with dugong Mawar became increasingly tight. Every One comes to Sika Island, Mawar always appears and follows him. When he brought tourists to Sika Island, dugong Mawar never missed appearing.

"If there is a guest tomorrow, he knows, he comes. 70 percent of his character is human," he said.

Sure enough, after being near Sika Island, One called Mawar in a language that was only understood by him. Before long the brown mammal appeared. He wriggled from the back of the boat and circled in the direction of the boat.

When One asked the dugong Mawar to rise, he raised his nose to the surface of the water until he heard a breath. One only allows visitors to touch Rose on his approval.

"Actually, there are 3 dugongs. My wife gives me the name Melati and her son Siska. But they can't meet many people, if I can," he said.

Although familiar with Mawar, One never gave him food directly. Because the characters of wild animals do prefer to feed themselves.

"He ate seagrass, seaweed. One meal can be 40 kg," he said.

In addition to the Mawar family, One said there were still around 11 other dugongs in the waters of Alor. The Dugong-dugong roam more around Pantar Island, but seldom appear.

"There they don't want to be made like this (tourist attraction), because people have eaten it. They are angry," One said.

One admitted that every day he always took time to meet Mawar. If you have to go out of town, he will tell Mawar and say when to go home.

"If I want to go out of town, I say he, don't show up, don't swim outside the bay, later people will be killed. He followed my words," he said.

The plan, One will lead 2 whales to live around Sika Island with the Mawar family. So that later tourists who come to Sika Island can see whales swimming freely in the ocean. But according to him Dugong Mawar objected to the idea.

"I have met two whales in these waters. I want to collect the plan, but the dugong doesn't want it," said One.
